NO SCOUTS this Wednesday. 16th December.

As everyone is super-busy this time of year, I have decided to call the Scout year finished. We had our Group Breakup last Wednesday at Merbein Pool.

I have a Christmas 2015 badge for every Scout in the Troop as a little Christmas gift. Parents, catch up with me before Christmas and put it in the stocking. Jamboree scouts, I will have yours when we catch the bus.

ROVER CAMP - CALL FOR HELP AT PACK UP (All Troops in the District)

As everyone is aware, Rover Camp is a huge production, put on by local Rovers and Scout Leaders. The camp takes at least a week to set up. We need your help to dismantle the campsite, pack trailers and transport these trailers back to the Nichols Point Scout Centre.

We (the Scout Leaders) are asking for 2 parents from each Troop to stay on-site from 1pm until the camp is fully dismantled and all trailers are packed and ready to roll out. If we have sufficient helpers, this should be completed by 5 or 6pm. The more helpers we have, the earlier we can all go home (and collapse).

If some of the volunteers have vehicles capable of towing trailers back to Mildura, this would be of great help.

We suggest that you come out to the camp, say hello to your Scout, then send them home with another family who will drop them home.

When you arrive at the campsite, please report to the kitchen tent where you will find Dave Macey, he will direct you in the pack-up.

Please comment below if you are able to assist us on the Sunday afternoon.

Many thanks. ⚜

Due to the muddy condition of the track into the Mertanalli Sandhills (Kelso Station), it has been decided that the Cohen Shield Camp be relocated. The camp will now be held at Wentworth, near the 2nd boat ramp, past Lock 10. Look for Dave Masey his white ute and caravan. No signs, but should be easy to find.

Scouts Tonight is Bring a Friend / Team Building / Proficiency Badges. BRING YOUR GREEN BOOK. PARENT HELPERS NEEDED.

We have 30+ Scouts on the books at the moment and 4 leaders, so if you're bringing a friend tonight, expect a packed Scout Hall !

We really need to concentrate on badge work tonight, especially for those heading to Jamboree in January 2016. I propose we have a MEGA BADGE NIGHT tonight. PARENT HELPERS NEEDED!!!

If you know first aid, please stay and help with First Aid badge work.

If you know about knots and construction, please stay and help.

Scouts: There will be time to make a presentation to your patrol for the proficiency badge you are working on.

I want to see everyone working hard, getting things signed off tonight. Let's see how many badges can be achieved tonight if we all work hard.

Don't worry, there will still be time for a few games!

See you all tonight.

St Joseph’s College Stadium will be overflowing with exciting hands-on science exhibits on Saturday 22 August when the Science Circus and their colourful semi-trailer roll into town for a public exhibition of their ‘pop-up’ science centre.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy over 40 interactive science exhibits and watch spectacular science shows as Science Circus presenters hold fire in their hands, lie on a bed of nails and levitate beach balls.

“Our exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for the whole community to get hands-on with science. It’s a great way to discover new things about our world and explore the science and technology all around us,” said Science Circus presenter Charlotte Fletcher.

The team is visiting local schools throughout the Mildura region this week, sharing flying rockets, freezing cold liquid nitrogen and gooey slime with students through a range of interactive science shows.

“We hope that many of the students we’ve visited in schools will bring their families along to the public exhibition, to explore science together and with the rest of the community,” said Charlotte.

The Science Circus is comprised of 15 postgraduate students studying a Master of Science Communication Outreach at The Australian National University. The students spend three months of the year visiting communities all over Australia to engage people with science and technology.

This year, the Science Circus is celebrating 30 years on the road. Since 1985, the Science Circus has inspired over 2.2 million people with multiple visits to over 500 towns and communities, including 90 remote Indigenous communities, with interactive science demonstrations.

The Shell Questacon Science Circus is a proud initiative of Shell, The Australian National University and Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre.

Hike 2015 - Expectations of Scouts

New Scouts and Scout with less than 12 months experience: Hike with a day pack. (Clothes, lunch, snacks and water). Cooking equipment, bedding, food, and tent does not need to be carried. (Refer to maximum pack weight on the Camping and Hiking Information sheets).

Older and more experienced Scouts:

Hike with full pack. (Clothes, food and water, cooking equipment, bedding and tent. Sharing of tent components, cooking equipment, etc. would be a good idea. (Refer to maximum pack weight on the Camping and Hiking Information sheets).

Water and gear not carried by Scouts will be carried by support vehicles. Water bottle refills will be available during the day.

I recommend, unless the Scout has a very good, light weight, hike sleeping bag, additional blankets should be carried by the support vehicle. The support vehicle will deliver the extra blankets and camping gear (for younger Scouts) to the Saturday night camp, then again to the Sunday finishing point.

Attention Patrol Leaders! TC6

Scout Troops work better and Scouts get more fun out of Scouting, when a Troop Council is driving the program and making the decisions that count.

TC6 is a challenge for every Scout Troop in Victoria.

To qualify as a TC6 Troop in 2015, you need to run at least 6 TCs for the year, including:

  • at least one TC each term
  • a major planning TC where you work on the program for the year (you might have already had this one at the end of last year for example, but it still counts as a TC for this year if you were working on the 2015 program), and
  • a reward TC, where the TC members get to just have some fun in recognition of their hard work :).
So, as a TC, sign up to the TC6 challenge below, and get your Troop firing in 2015!

If you need more copies of the SL & PL letters posted out to all Troops in February, you can get them here – SL TC6 letter, PL TC6 letter.

For lots of TC tips and resources, as suggested by Scouts at the State Youth Forum in 2014, check out the other pages on this website.
