BBQ at Got one Cancelled!

Due to extreme weather we have decided to cancel the Sausage sizzle at Got One.  Thanks to all those parents who have helped and I look forward to your continued support during 2014.
We have made a start with our fundraising!
More details in the new year about other fundraising things coming up.

A Special Message from the Group Committee


On behalf of the 5th Mildura Group Committee, I would like to take the opportunity to to wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.

Thanks is extended to every one of you for your time, dedication and resources, which you have generously given to the group over 2013. Whether it is transporting kids, helping on camps, attending Committee meetings or cooking a BBQ, it all  assists in making our group the wonderful one that it is, and helps make the experience that much richer for all of our youth members.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2014!!!

***IMPORTANT***

Due to less than stellar weather tonights Group Party has been moved to the Mildura Waves.
Same time - 6:30 to 8:30 - however we won't be able to hold a BBQ, so eat before you head on down.
Cost will be $3.75 per child, and if you aren't swimming there will be no cost.

UPDATES

Good morning all,

 the next (and final) meeting of the committee for the year will be held this coming Wednesday the 4th at McDonalds on Deakin Avenue. We will get started around 7:15. It is a more casual meeting, however if you do have agenda items please send them through.

Don't forget about the Group Christmas Party on the 9th of December at the Merbein pool - hard copy notes will come home this week.

5th Mildura's New Portrait of Lord Baden Powell

The 5th Mildura Scout Group are privileged to have been presented with this Portrait of Lord Baden Powell, painted locally by Johan Wielozynski, Aidan and Zoe Middleton's (Cubs) Grandfather. This portrait is based on the famous 1929 portrait by David Jagger. Unveiled at Annie-May's Scout Medallion Presentation by Annie-May on November 22, 2013 at the 5th Mildura Scout Hall.

Scout Note :: Important Reminders for November

Dear Scouts and Parents,

Just a couple of reminders for Scouts for the next week:

Friday November 22nd:
Annie-May’s Australian Scout Medallion Presentation

Scouts need to be at the hall at 7:00pm in full and correct uniform, ready for a run through of parade and the formal presentations, so we get it right! Each scout can have a small role during the presentation to support Annie, so it is important to be there to celebrate with her.
Scouts also need to bring a nice plate of supper to share.

 Parents and families are asked to stay for the presentation. This is a big night and is especially great for parents of younger scouts to see what their child can be working towards achieving during their time in scouts and encourage them to do so.

Wednesday November 27th:
Annie-May’s Amazing Aqua Adventures

Scouts need to wear old clothes, bring a change of clothes and a towel. Be prepared for fun!

Thursday November 28th:
“Project ICE” at Nichols Point Scout Centre 8:00pm
Corner of First and Cureton Aves, Nichols Point.

This is a drug information night "PROJECT ICE". This night is open to all families,  parents, scouts and friends, everyone is welcome and the more people who hear about the consequences  of this devastating drug, the more likely we are to help our children to avoid ever getting mixed up in it.

This will be a great night of information for all who attend and will be ran by Northern Mallee Community Partnerships- people who have seen the effects of the drug are trained in educating teenagers and families, and can provide the facts.

If you can, parents bring your teenagers; it is an hour presentation that could change your life.

For anyone interested in bringing younger children, this presentation is more designed for teenagers but please feel free to do so, if you are accompanying them.

5th Mildura Scouts intends to hold a similar information night early next year, but with the presentation focused more towards younger children.Education is the key to making sure we get the information out there to help prevent more destruction in the lives of young people.

WORKING BEE

 There is a working Bee scheduled for this Saturday(16th), starting at 10am. There is around 3 hours worth of work to be done, including laying mulch, cleaning the kitchen, and weeding around the right hand side of the hall. The excess timber in the yard is also going to be loaded up and taken away. PLEASE head on down and help if you are able!!

We are meeting at Local Potter 'Jane's house at 15 Benetook Ave Extension (heading towards Ski Club from Cureton Ave East) for our 'Going Potty' Night

We need to start at 6.15 till 8pm

Cubs take action

The 5th Mildura Cub Pack has been successful in gain a grant to create a native garden.  Many hours have already been spent preparing and planting the garden.  A dripper system has been installed but if you would like to help our little plants grow please feel free to give them some extra water.




Anthony from Coles extends the Congratulations with a $50 voucher and a bag of goodies.

“CUBS TAKE ACTION”- 5th Mildura Cub Scout Group WINS!

 COLES AND JUNIOR LANDCARE GRANT

Monday 14th October we need parents help to prepare Garden beds.  Please bring rakes and shovels to help clear out the garden bed ready for planting on the 21st Oct.  If you can volunteer your trailer to take weeds to the tip please see Kerri.
 

               We need to think of some Fundraising ideas to help reduce the cost for everyone who wants to go to Cuboree  in September 2014!

We will need volunteers to help with a BBQ at our Founders day celebrations on the 22nd Feb 2014 please keep this date free!

I would like to hold a Handmade Card workshop evening “Cards for Cubs” !

Domino’s Pizza- Have heard something about this but need more info!

More ideas and input would be helpful I will be asking David Searle to come and talk to parents about this camp will keep you all posted with time and date!

Cohen Shield :: Directions to Bulter’s Bend(aka Munro’s Bend)

  • Drive over theGeorge Chaffey Bridge towards Buronga.
  • Turn Right at the round‐a‐bout towards GolGol and Euston
  • Continue through Buronga and then through GolGol.
  • The turn off to the entrance of the property is about 5.3km from the GolGol Hotel on the Right Hand Side.
  • Go through the gate, don’t worry about shutting the gate.
  • Head down the road through the centre of the property. This road will go down a hill and will follow around.
  • Camping is allowed anywhere.
  • Old Rover Camp Totem pole is the main flag area.
  • Camp fire must be kept neat and under control at all times

**Note: The road is solid and rocky, and is an all‐weather road. It is rough but all vehicles should have no problems.

Fundraiser - Christie Centre Spring Ball Cleanup (Saturday Morning September 7th)

PARENTS: WE HAVE BEEN FORWARDED THIS REQUEST. IF YOU AVAILABLE TO ASSIST PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP. MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK AND IT SEEMS A VERY "5TH MILDURA" THING TO DO :)

AND AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

Hi Caitlin,

I've just had the offer of a little fund raising idea, that would perhaps take about an hour to do, depending on how many helpers we could get?

The Christie Centre have a Spring Ball every year and it is next Friday night Sept 6th. What is required is a cleaning crew to clean up the following morning at the Sacred Heart Hall.

There will be 160 chairs to stack and roll away, 16 tables to also fold and roll away and the hall floor to sweep. (I don't think it needs to be mopped). There may also be a few boards and props that need to be packed onto a trailer and left for Christie Centre staff to deal with. Possibly some posters to take off walls and throw out.

If we can get some parents to help out, an do the cleaning, I'm happy to be there also to show people where things go and assist as well. It's a donation to the Scouts, of $200.00.

What do you think, can we get it organised in time? It is election day, but I don't think that should be a problem?

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This meeting shall be held on the 18th of September, commencing at 7:00pm at the 5th Mildura Scout Hall, 8 The Centreway Mildura.
